Two Doctors and a Gang of Gangers

Today’s Episode: The Almost People

Writer: Matthew Graham

The fun part was seeing two Doctors and watching them interact!

Two Doctors

The reasoning behind this two parter can be summed up in this final scene between Amy, Rory and the Doctor once they are back on the Tardis..

RORY: Doctor! What is happening to her?

DOCTOR: Contractions.

RORY: Contractions?

DOCTOR: She’s going into labour.

AMY: Did he say…? No, of course he didn’t. Rory, I don’t like this. Ow!

(grips her stomach and bends over)

RORY: You’ll have to start explaining this to me, Doctor.

DOCTOR: What, the birds and the bees? She’s having a baby. I needed to see the Flesh in its early days. That’s why I scanned it. That’s why we were there in the first place. I was going to drop you off for fish and chips first, but things happened and there was stuff and shenanigans. Beautiful word, shenanigans.

AMY:  It hurts!

RORY: But you’re OK?

DOCTOR: Breathe. I needed enough information to block the signal to the Flesh.

AMY: What signal?

DOCTOR: The signal to you.

AMY: Doctor?

DOCTOR: Stand away from her, Rory.

RORY: Why? No! And why?

DOCTOR: Given what we’ve learned, I’ll be as humane as I can, but I need to do this and you need to stand away!

RORY looks at AMY who shakes her head. RORY looks back at the DOCTOR and then slowly backs away from AMY.

AMY: No. No! (turns her gaze from RORY to the DOCTOR) Doctor, I am frightened. I’m properly, properly scared.

DOCTOR: Don’t be. Hold on. We’re coming for you, I swear it. Whatever happens, however hard, however far, we will find you.

(puts his hand to AMY’S cheek)

AMY: I’m right here!

(puts her hands on his arm)

DOCTOR: No, you’re not. You haven’t been here for a long, long time.

The DOCTOR pulls away from her and holds up the sonic screwdriver. RORY gasps.

AMY: Oh, no!

The DOCTOR activates the sonic and AMY melts into Flesh.

INT. ???

AMY wakes with a gasp. She is lying in a bed and dressed in a white hospital gown. Above her, a window slides open and she sees the EYE-PATCH LADY.

EYE-PATCH LADY: Well, dear, you’re ready to pop, aren’t you? Little one’s on its way.

AMY looks down her body and sees she is in a position about to give birth and starts whimpering.

EYE-PATCH LADY: Here it comes. Pu-u-u-ush!

AMY screams!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GOD.

Amy really is pregnant and got herself kidnapped?? As far back as ‘Merica?

Well… the midseason finale is A GOOD MAN GOES TO WAR… Till tomorrow!!

I hate this episode, the only thing we do is learn how dopplegangers, aka gangers are made.

A cliffhanger leaves us with a scary ganger Doctor…

Nothing memorable is said… really.

Boring.

Neil Gaiman plays God

Today’s Episode:  The Doctor’s Wife

Writer: Neil Gaiman

Now the first time I saw this episode, I thought, WOW that’s a great episode. Then later when I found out that Neil Gaiman wrote it, I was totally unaware of him. I had seen this film..

coraline

Which I thought was an amazing movie. He wrote the book that this film was based on. He also wrote this book too.. that I’m in the middle of, (I admit I’m in the middle of three other books as well..)

American Gods

I heard they are making a movie out of that too.

Neil has been a Whovian since the Tom Baker era, being a Brit, thus he was delighted when he got asked to write for the show. He said writing for the show was like playing God, because whatever he wrote, the Doctor would say!

So he added a ton of mythology to this episode,

  • Time Lords can change sex when they regerate, as the Corsair did..
  • There is a Squash Court 7, makes one wonder about squash court 6
  • The Tardis doesn’t nessisarily take the Doctor and his strays where he wants to go, but he does take them where they need to go.
  • The Tardis can archive rooms that haven’t happened yet.
  • Amy and Rory sleep on bunkbeds in the Tardis, and the Doctor doesn’t see a problem with it.
  • Timelords can send distress calls out, when needed.

There were so many good parts to this episode, but this really highlighted everything..

Amy meets the Tardis

Also, This is the best conversation between the Doctor and the Tardis, which explains why she says she’s “Sexy”.

Sexy

I also noticed that he did this..

face slap

I’ve heard it’s because that hand is newer than the rest of his body, due it being cut off way back in Christmas Invasion, as you recall, it’s a fighting hand, and the Doctor just said before the slap he has no idea what to do.

The Amy/Rory parts where a wee boring, especially with Rory ‘dying’ again. I just want to yell at Moffat to quit turning him into Kenny.

Another great line was said by Amy right at the end that really sums up the whole point of Doctor Who..

“Look at you pair, its always you and her isn’t it? Long after the rest of us are gone. The boy and his box off to see the universe”

Doctor working on the Tardis

Till tomorrow.. the worst episode of this season.

Today’s Episode:  The Curse of the Black Spot

Writer: Stephen Thompson

We have another prequel…

Ooooooh scary!!!

We have another awesome guest star.. Hugh Bonneville! DOWNTON ABBEY! Love these guest stars after having the Sheppards! He does a lovely job playing Henry Avery.. whom after some googling is modeled after a real life pirate Henry Every, whom’s ship disappeared with some treasure in 1696, and this episode takes place in 1699.

We also have the Doctor wearing his third hat… the Fez, the Stenson and now a Tri-Cornered Pirate Hat?

hat

HAHAHA HAHA.. No.

The best scene is when the Doctor, Amy and the Captain enter the sickbay..

Toby Rory THe TARDIS

And Amy acting like a pirate.. just like Keira…

amy acting like pirate

Why Star Trek? Because of the hologram on Star Trek Voyager, that siren reminds me of this guy..

doctor

Who also happens to be a Whovian!!!

doctor who fan

Till tomorrow.. Neil Gaiman’s first stab at writing a Doctor Who episode with tons of LORE added!!!!

Today’s Episode:  The Day of the Moon

Writer: Stephen Moffat

Ok second part.. I wish team Tardis kept Canton.. as Mark Sheppard was awesome in this episode, with Rory getting “killed” at the Hoover Dam, River running from him by jumping off a building, and Amy also got shot running from him too. I read somewhere awhile ago.. these types of bullets were known to put you in into a deathlike state, and the Doctor gave them to Canton to use.

The hand recordings were a cool device to use against the silence, great plot devise, as we saw everyone use them.

The best parts were when Canton told off the silence, in the orphanage,

Armed at the ready

Also, when the Doctor nearly got arrested and Rory and River used the Tardis to grab President Nixon to bail him out..

Impossible astronaut

And when Rory asked River what type of Doctor she was… she didn’t even have to look behind her to shoot, as she could see the Silent in Rory’s face..

River Shot

We also had the first sighting of eye patch lady, and we are still left with the mystery of who the heck that poor little girl is. We know she looks different now since she regenerated. Nor are we sure if Amy’s pregnant or not. Lots of mysteries remain for this season!

Till tomorrow.. PIRATES!!! ARGGGGGG!!!

The Doctor dies at the beginning?

Today’s Episode:  The Impossible Astronaut

Writer: Stephen Moffat

So, we begin Season 6! This season has a ton of mini episodes, like this episode has..

That’s Nixon! The Doctor is going to ‘Merica!

This is the first time that Doctor Who has actually filmed on site in ‘merica! In Utah! They are in Monument Valley.

I loved the beginning, as its clear that Eleven can travel alone and has fun doing so, as Ten could NOT hang out like Eleven can.

The best part of this is that Mark Sheppard is in it. Anyone who knows  sci-fyi knows this guy. He’s been in EVERYTHING.. Firefly, Supernatural, Warehouse 13, Chuck, Battlestar Galactica, he even was in an episode of Sliders! What makes this episode even more awesome is that the guy that played older Canton, well that’s Mark’s father, William Morgan Sheppard! They play Americans in this, but they are British.

So,  the Doctor’s death is the story arc of this season, who killed him? Why did he have everyone there on the beach? Is he really and truly dead? Lots of questions to answer. Luckily we did learn more about the Silence, by actually seeing one!

We did learn that Eleven doesn’t like wine, just like Nine.  Ten, as you recall could drink it, and did often, but evidenced here and back last season in the Lodger, Eleven can’t stand the stuff.

Doctor who and Wine

Also another difference is that Eleven is cool with having a married couple on his ship.. compared to Nine..

doctor and family

He also under estimates Americans and our stupid love for guns..

Guns

Now, the best lines go to River, when she and Rory are having a lovely heart to heart as she’s unlocking a door..

RORY: What did you mean? What you said to Amy. There’s a worse day coming for you.

RIVER: When I first met the Doctor, a long, long time ago… he knew all about me. Think about that. Impressionable young girl, and suddenly this man just drops out of the sky, he’s clever and mad and wonderful and knows every last thing about her. Imagine what that does to a girl.

RORY: (softly) I don’t really have to.

RIVER: Trouble is, it’s all back to front. My past is his future. We’re travelling in opposite directions. Every time we meet, I know him more, he knows me less. I live for the days when I see him. But I know that every time I do, he’ll be one step further away. And the day’s coming, when I’ll look into that man’s eyes… my Doctor… and he won’t have the faintest idea who I am. (the lock whirrs) And I think it’s going to kill me.

Poor River she has to deal with so much. At least she was able to get a good slap in..

Poor Matt smith.. as they had to do multiple takes of that.

Finally this great Doctor’s request of the president that didn’t get fulfilled.. I think that no one knew what a Jammie Dodger was, and SWAT was just created in 1968, so they might not have known what the Doctor was talking about with that…

12 jammie dogers and a fez

Alas. At least we are left with a cliffhanger, as Rory and River are trapped in this room that is the exact same set from the second floor of the Lodger, and Amy shoots the astronaut just after revealing to the Doctor that she’s pregnant!

Till tomorrow.. More Morgan Sheppard!!!

The Missing Christmas Special

Today’s Episode:  A Christmas Carol

Writer: Stephen Moffat

This is the strangest Christmas specials of all the Christmas Specials. It’s not up on Netflix, its only up on Amazon. I found it after I was googling around for more Doctor Who, after I finished watching everything on Netflix. It’s a mash up of Voyage of the Damned meets the Unquiet Dead.

Rory and Amy are in the honeymoon suite, playing Kissogram and the Roman.. when the spaceship they are on starts crashing and they call the Doctor to save them. Sadly the only room seen on the ship is the bridge. The Tardis can’t land on the ship for some reason… thus the Doctor meets this cranky old man named Kazran Sardick (played by Gambon, aka Dumbledore)  that controls the cloud layer that is blocking the ship from making a landing. The old dude hates everyone and refuses to clear the cloud layer.

Thus the Doctor begins a Christmas Carol style remake on him.  Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future take place.

The Best parts..

The Doctor’s psychic paper shorts out due to him lying that he is a mature and responsible adult, as young Kazran notes that he just sees squiggly lines.

The Doctor accidentally marries Marilyn Monroe. He later says it wasn’t a real chapel as a defense. I believe him…. eh?

The Doctor does says this awesome line when he first sees Abigail and asks whom she is..

Christmas Carol

The song Abigail sang was a wee annoying to me… and its stuck in my head now..

I’m off to bed to get it out, hopefully by tomorrow when Doctor Who comes to ‘Merica for the beginning of Season 6!

“Ok Kid, This is where it gets complicated”

Today’s Episode:  Big Bang

Writer: Stephen Moffat

30 Days left till the 50th Anniversary!  Hurray!

Now Moffat really made a doozy of a finale here. See the title of this blog, as Amy uttered it just before opening credits when it was discovered that she was inside the Pandorica and not the Doctor. Trying to keep up with all the flashbacks and the movements in time really warrant at least two re-watching of this episode to get what is going on..

The best parts where..

The first time we get a mention of “Rule 1”, that is the Doctor lies, and quite frequently at that.

River shooting the Fez, in fact Moffat said that he plans to put the Doctor in a Fez. The production staff apparently looked at him in horror over it, because they know that Matt Smith would milk the fez whenever possible… then Moffat explains how he will take it away from the Doctor right after he gets it! Thus..

River-shoots-Fez

River is she is the ONLY PERSON that has ever had a Dalek utter “Mercy” at them. She doesn’t show Daleks mercy…

mercy

The realization that Rory is now older than the Doctor, at 1,800 something to the Doctor’s 907ish. The reason for this is that Moffat said, if you think about shooting someone you love, waiting 2,000 years for them seems like the ultimate penance, thus that’s what happened to Rory… he felt so bad about killing Amy.

The Big Bang

The scene in Flesh + Stone finally makes sense now, with the Doctor telling Amy to remember what he said when she was seven. Thus when she’s seven, he brings her inside while she’s waiting and tells her..

The DOCTOR tucks AMELIA into bed and sits down in the chair next to the bed.

DOCTOR: It’s funny. I thought if you could hear me, I could hang on somehow. Silly me. Silly old Doctor. When you wake up, you’ll have a mum and dad… And you won’t even remember me. Well, you’ll remember me a little. I’ll be a story in your head. But that’s OK. We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Cos it was, you know. It was the best. A daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I was always going to take it back. Oh, that box, Amy. You’ll dream about that box. It’ll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand new and ancient. And the bluest blue ever. And the times we had, eh? Woulda had… Never had. In your dreams, they’ll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond. And the days that never came. The cracks are closing. But they can’t close properly until I’m on the other side. I don’t belong here any more. I think I’ll skip the rest of the rewind. I hate repeats. Live well. Love Rory.(kisses her head) Bye bye, Pond. (caresses her hair)

The DOCTOR leaves and the crack closes behind him. AMELIA wakes, looks at the wall then settles back to sleep. Outside her window, the stars shine in the night sky.

Also.. we must remember the Giraffe Dance, as we learn that Eleven cannot Dance.

Giraffe

Matt Smith cannot Dance to save his life.. even with Karen..

Till tomorrow, we join Amy and Rory on their Honeymoon…..

Now THAT is how you begin a Season Finale!

Today’s Episode:  The Pandorica Opens

Writer: Stephen Moffat

I love this episode as it ties in very neatly nearly all the epiodes of the season. It begins with Van Gogh and his dreams, making a painting, and then ties in the war rooms of Victory of the Daleks with Winston Churchill, whom tries to call the Doctor but gets River in Stormcage thus adding in a few elements of Time of the Angels,  whom then goes onto Starship UK, to steal the painting from the Beast Below! Love the little links of things we have seen this past season.

Pandorica Opens

Now she gets the vortex manipulator from Malovar, whom says he got it fresh off the wrist of a time agent. Most people speculate that this could be Jack.. as he does turn into the Face of Boe. Then heading even further back she upsets the Doctor by writing on the oldest cliff face in history!  She does write the Doctor’s childhood nickname on the face.. if you look closely you can see Sigma Theta, which is what he was called in school. This was also done in So Long and Thanks for All the Fish by Douglas Adams, but that was God leaving a message for everyone..

hello sweetie

I’m sure Moffat had a blast writing River Song, as he always does. He does do a very good job at making moments that are seemingly important such as the Doctor explaining to Amy why her life doesn’t make any sense to be broken up by a cyberarm shooting at them. He also wrote the most definitive speech of Eleven’s tenure thus far, known as “Hello Stonehenge”..

DOCTOR: Hello, Stonehenge! Who takes the Pandorica, takes the universe. But bad news, everyone… (jumps up on flat stone) ‘Cos guess who?! Ha! (uses communicator) Listen, you lot, you’re all whizzing about, it’s really very distracting. Could you all just stay still a minute? Because I am talking! (the ships still) The question of the hour is, who’s got the Pandorica? Answer… I do. Next question, who’s coming to take it from me? Come on! Look at me, no plan, no back-up, no weapons worth a damn. Oh, and something else, I don’t have, anything… to… lose! So if you’re sitting up there in your silly little spaceship, with all your silly little guns, and you’ve got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who’s standing in your way. Remember every black day I ever stopped you. And then, AND THEN, do the smart thing. Let somebody else try first.

The DOCTOR holds his arms outstretched, daring someone to try. The ships take off. RORY exhales. The DOCTOR throws RORY his communicator and jumps down.

pandorica

Yup, Rory’s back. According to him, he died, and turned into a Roman, and its quite distracting.

rory wtf

He decides that Rory’s coming back is a mircle..

RORY:But I don’t understand. Why am I here?

DOCTOR:Because you are. The universe is big. It’s vast and complicated and ridiculous, and sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles, and that’s the theory. 900 years, never seen one yet. But this would do me. Now get upstairs, she’s Amy and she’s surrounded by Romans. I’m not sure history can take it.

Sadly, Amy couldn’t remember Rory. Luckily she did though, just in time to be shot by Rory, at the same time River gets stuck in a Time Loop  on the Tardis, and the Doctor meets a ton of his olde enemies. For that scene, EVERY enemy since Rose in 2005 is there as well as the spinoff shows of Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood. The Alliance consists of Atraxi,  Blowfish, Chelonians,  Cybermen,  Daleks, Draconians, Drahvins,Hoix, Judoon, Nestene Consciousness /Autons, Roboforms, Silurians, Slitheen family, Sontarans (including Commander Stark), Sycorax, Terileptils, Uvodni, Weevils, and Zygons.

Thus began our cliffhanger, with the entire universe exploding around the earth…

planets exploding

Till tomorrow… we’ll see how they get out of that one..

Craig and the Doctor

Today’s Episode:  The Lodger

Writer: Gareth Roberts

So, the Doctor gets kicked off the Tardis, and Amy tries to keep the Tardis alive without him. This episode is “Amy lite” as instead we are given James Corden as Craig, a guy  that is very insecure and just likes things the way they are as a companion to the Doctor.

It was kinda a fun one, trying to watch the Doctor try to blend in..

the lodger not expecting this

The best part was also when he was talking to Amy, and Craig only heard weird snatches of garbleness through the walls, before he knew exactly whom the Doctor was.

This episode was also fun for Matt Smith to show off his soccer skills as he nearly became a professional footballer before a spinal injury made him re-think his career. Funnily enough in the episode his jersey number is 11! Eleventh Doctor, eleventh episode of this season, and it’s the first time he’s ever referred to himself as Eleventh after the head bump with Craig.

The Doctor did do a great job in the end, saving the world again from someone trying to create a Tardis, and helps two people realize that they are in love with each other.

Till tomorrow.. River’s BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
