Today’s Episode:  Planet of the OOD

Writer:  Keith Temple

I’ve never been a big fan of this episode. It does feel a bit filler, but at the same time, we get to know the OOD a bit better than we did back in Season 2 with Rose when they visited the Impossible Planet.  How Donna behaves toward the OOD reminds me of Rose, and Hermione and the Harry Potter ‘verse. Remember the House Elves? Dolby?

The whole thing that made this totally unbelievable was the “hair tonic” turned this guy into OODkind.  Also, the whole “DOCTOR DONNA FRIENDS!” chat that they were saying reminded me a bit of Finding Nemo, “Fish are our Friends, NOT food!” for some reason.

I did love the banter though between Donna and the Doctor.. like this..

It was also nice to see Donna and the Doctor actually stay behind and clean up a bit of the mess and to help the OOD.

No planet mentioned this time though, but Donna did note the bees again to the Doctor.  So here’s a dancing OOD.. till tomorrow.

Today’s Episode: Voyages of the Damned

Writer: Russell T. Davies

Woot! 42 Episodes in!!

This is the strangest episode of all the Christmas Specials that we have. The whole cyborg and the Max thing was crazy. The good parts of episode where

1.)     Note the newspaper man we met. He seemed cool.

2.)     This is the THIRD time we have seen Ten in a tux..

  1. The parallel universe with Rose, at the party  at her “parent’s” estate
  2. Lazarus Project
  3. Now

i.      Every time he wears that tux, people die. He should burn it.

3.)     The tour guide and his zany knowledge of Earth kept me laughing.. I’m happy he lived.

4.)     This awesome speech..

The Doctor: Okay, okay. Tch, tch. First things first. One: we’re going to climb through this ship. B… no… two: we’re going to reach the bridge. Three – or C: we’re going to save the Titanic. And, coming in a very low Four or D or that little “iv” in brackets they use in footnotes… why. Right then, follow me.

Slade: Hang on a minute. Who put you in charge and who the hell are you anyway?

The Doctor: I’m the Doctor. I’m a Time Lord. I’m from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I am 903 years old and I’m the man who’s gonna save your lives, and all six billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?

5.)    The BEST THING was this exchange…

Today’s Episode: Last of the Time Lords

Writer: Russell T. Davies

Urg. RTD did a total deus ex machina by having the Doctor tune into the Archangel Network.. so the power of prayer works? Then by destroying the paradox machine.. no one remembers anything unless they were on the ship? Sorry.. doesn’t really work for me that well.

There are only two really good parts to this episode. First is Martha leaving the Doctor, as she realizes that he ain’t over Rose, and he is not looking for a relationship with her, as they both want different things. Thus her leaving him!

The second is this.. that can best be said in video..

Finally I leave you with this awesome.. Marry/Shag/Kill?

marry shag toss

I love seeing Barrowman and Tennant together.. they are so fun eh?

Last but not least… I wish I was this woman! I’m sad that I am not.

Writer: Helen Raynor

Part Duex of bulletpoints!

1.) The 4 Daleks survived the Void by doing an emergency temporal shift. They are the Cult of Skaro.. so yeah. Just go along with it.

2.) Only Caan survives this episode, and we WILL see him again.

3.) The one major plot hole I have with this whole episode is how does gamma rays from the sun turn into lighting?

4.) How did the Doctor survive the Gamma Ray/Lighting Blast? Never explained.

5.) Daleks should know better than to commit genocide in front of the Doctor.

6.) I’m happy that the Doctor finally takes Martha home after this episode so she CAN CHANGE CLOTHES!

Arg… I’m ready to move on, one more terrible episode to go!

Swear to god.  This episode is just full of in jokes, beginning with Martha dealing her her family just like Michael does on Arrested Development.

Then the Doctor Trolls her… “like so”.

Doctor trolling martha

Then later when they are on the moon.. the Doctor realizes.. she can be cool..

RTD does this..

Also the Poor Doctor destroys his sonic.. and he gets a new one later.. but..

And finally the whole genetic transfer kiss

genetic transfer

I’m gonna admit… I’m not a big fan of Martha. I, like the Doctor am still getting over Rose.. and its hard for me to see him travel with someone else. I know he must have someone.. but at the same time, it feels like a rebound relationship, which is why I’m not a big fan of how RTD handled Martha’s character. It’s like he treated her a bit like Mikey in some ways… like the tin dog.

Anyway.. here’s a nice Tennant behind the scenes video diary for ya…

Tomorrow a bit of Harry Potter and Shakespeare!

Today’s Episode: Doomsday

Writer: Russell T. Davies

That was a flipping roller coaster, and that is HOW a season ends. Although it is a difficult episode to go back and re-watch, it is a great one as it really firms up theories about the 50th Anniversary timeline.

One thing I love about Who is that there is always an arc to the season, and the seasons I have completed watching for this marathon thus far..

Season One: Bad Wolf

Season Two: Torchwood

There are many great moments in Doomsday like this one between the Daleks and the Cybermen…

Daleks vs. Cybermen

Don’t forget about this one too..

doomsday burn

Then Rose gets all sassy about how she killed the Emperor, and then they realized that the Doctor was there after making Rose identify him, and they were like “oh no!” you didn’t just mention him!

It is so hard though.. when you see the Doctor acting all happy.. once he managed to get Parerll Pete and Jackie hooked up, and when he explains about void stuff..

To him telling Rose that she can’t stay with him and sends her to Pete’s World, and she vows to stay with him, its obious that it hurts him to do so, but he knows she must go. He is irrated with her when she comes back, but once the get the manga clamps on, and the Daleks and Cybermen head into the void.. he is happy not to do this alone until the leaver slips…. and it looks like she gets sucked in..

That scene afterwards with Rose and the Doctor against the wall..

I found this little tidbit as well.. and I’m on David’s side..

Doomsday Tidbit

Then we have bad wolf bay.. lordy can my heart hurt even more?? Must you keep stomping on it RTD??? MUST YOU?? NO! You decide to leave Rose TYLER without a response to her declaration of love..

Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope

doctor doomsday gif

Luckily.. there is fan fic! My favorite fan fic is quite interesting.. and not for everyone, as it does got well.. a bit smutty. I discovered Archive of Our Own… and found this great writer KelKat9 and her theory of what happened if Rose accidentally dimension hopped into a parallel universe where there are still time lords and the Doctor was basically running the earth? Check it out here..

So I leave you with this great scene (Sorry about it not being captioned) but its right after Nine became Ten, and helps Rose explain why they went back to the estate, rather than Barcelona (the planet) which kinda mystified me until I saw it. Shows you how much he loved her even after regenerating.

Goodbye Season Two!! I shall miss you Rose!!

Army of WTF????

Today’s Episode: Army of Ghosts

Writer: Russell T. Davies

ROSE:(voice-over)Planet Earth.

Zoom in to London.

ROSE:(voice-over) This is where I was born. And this is where I died.

Teenage Rose, bored and glum, is on a bus eating chips as it pulls up at a stop.

ROSE:(voice-over)For the first nineteen years of my life, nothing happened. Nothing at all.

The bus pulls away.

ROSE:(voice-over)Not ever.

Rose sighs and leans her forehead against the window, popping another chip in her mouth.

ROSE:(voice-over, a smile in her tone)And then I met a man called the Doctor.

The Ninth Doctor grabs Rose’s hand.

And they do.

The Doctor – the Tenth Doctor this time, is prancing around the consol, pressing buttons and pulling levers, full of energy and enthusiasm.

ROSE:(voice-over)A man who could change his face. And he took me away from home in his magical machine.

The Doctor spins around with a triumphant “ha!”, arms wide with glee.

The Doctor and Rose run down an ordinary street, hand in hand, happy.

ROSE:(voice-over)He showed me the whole of time and space. I thought it would never end.

The Doctor and Rose are now standing a short way away from the TARDIS on a rocky alien planet, looking out at the sunset.

ROSE: (voice-over)That’s what I thought. But then came the army of ghosts. Then came Torchwood and the War. And that’s when it all ended.

Rose is standing on a beach, looking out to sea. A gentle breeze is blowing her hair.

ROSE:(voice-over)This is the story of how I died.

Shite. I know I shouldn’t swear.. but lordy RTD, you know how to make an amazing opening monologue! I get chills every time I see it. He really knows how to set a viewer up to remain keyed in and keep expectations high!

Now Rose and the Doctor meet up with Jackie…

jackie smooch

*Face Palm*

Jackie tells the Doctor and Rose about the ghosts.. and whilst they have been traveling for about 2 months, the Ghosts have shown up. They find out they are all over the earth. The Doctor and Rose decide to head back to the Tardis.. thus.. giving us the excuse for this awesome reference..

Note this is the first time that the Doctor has busted out the 3D glasses..

Alas, they were unable to get a clear focus on a ghost, but they do manage to pinpoint the source. As the Doctor heads to the point… he says..

The Doctor twiddles knobs on the console, nattering away to himself.

THE DOCTOR: I like that. ‘Allons-y’. I should say ‘allons-y’ more often. ‘Allons-y’. Watch out, Rose Tyler! Allons-y! And THEN, it would be really brilliant if I met someone called Alonzo. Because then I could say, ‘allons-y, Alonzo’! Every time! You’re staring at me.

Rose just mentions that her mother is still on board… killing his good mood. They arrive at what we know as Torchwood, and meet men with guns. However once Yvonne arrives.. they all start clapping, thus the Doctor feels like he has an audience..

why thanks

They all know all about the Doctor, including his companion.. to which he whips Jackie out of the Tardis and claims it to be Rose, and that she aged in the Vortex. He then learns about what Torchwood does, and that they were responsible for the gun during the Christmas Invasion.. and he’s none too impressed with them. He does take a moment to ask Yvonne if they do have someone named Alonzo.. sadly nope.

He then learns about the void ship and does a great job explaining it..

3D Glass

“The space between dimensions. There’s all sorts of realities around us, different dimensions – billions of parallel universes all stacked up against each other. The Void is the space in-between. Containing absolutely nothing. Imagine that – nothing. No light, no dark, no up, no down. No life. No time. Without end. My people called it the Void, the Eternals call it the Howling. But some people call it Hell.”

Then he wants to know how it got here.. thus the shifts, and the stupidity of Torchwood for building a skyscraper to reach the weak point…

“So, you find the breech, probe it, the sphere comes through. Six hundred feet above London, bam. It leaves a hole in the fabric of reality. And that hole, you think, “oh, shall we leave it alone? Shall we back off? Shall we play it safe?” Nah, you think “let’s make it BIGGER!”

He then convinces Yvonne not to do another shift by breaking her glass, by explaining to her what would happen with the breech.. nothing good would happen.. so funny how he just acts like he owns the place by putting his feet up..

Meanwhile, Cybermen have infiltrated Torchwood and killed 3 people and “upgraded” them.

Also, Rose manages to use the psyhic paper and gets found out.. however Mickey for some reason managed to cross the void and is in the room!

The cybermen manage to make the breech bigger, bringing all the Cybermen over!

During this.. Rose, Mickey and another dude are all trapped with the Void Ship as it opens.. DALEKS!!!

OH NO! The world is doomed? ! We are screwed!!!

I love this episode as it really does a great job setting you up for Doomsday… the final episode of the season. RTD really does a remarkable job by giving Tennant and Billie such great monologues.. and creating things that stick with the Doctor. Just like 11’s fez, 10’s 3D glasses have become his trademark, as well as 10 finally figuring out his catchphrase.

Till tomorrow folks.. in the mean time..

Billie bought David this shirt..

billie gives tennant a shirt

And lo he wore it. Awwwwwwww…. he so loves her…
