Wow. Officially a MONTH Done with this countdown! Hurray! Here’s the poster that was released..
And also they started shooting the Christmas special. Sadly Matt Smith is wearing a wig.. but alas, he still decides to checkout his co-star.. tee hee..
Anyway.. back to Gridlock.
I like this episode. It features cats, and it features Ten holding a kitten!
If you think that is cute.. here is Tennant holding a PIG!
1Also, I love how the Doctor describes Gallifrey twice in the episode, first in the beginning..
THE DOCTOR: The sky’s a burnt orange, with the Citadel enclosed in a mighty glass dome, shining under the twin suns. Beyond that, the mountains go on forever – slopes of deep red grass, capped with snow.
(Martha is utterly enthralled.)
MARTHA: Can we go there?
THE DOCTOR: Naah! Where’s the fun for me? I don’t want to go home! Instead …
And at the end, realizing he needs to ‘FESS UP!
THE DOCTOR: I lied to you, ’cause I liked it. I could pretend. Just for a bit, I could imagine they were still alive, underneath a burnt orange sky.
(Martha is shocked, and so sad for him.)
THE DOCTOR: I’m not just a Time Lord. I’m the last of the Time Lords. The Face of Boe was wrong. There’s no one else.
(Martha shakes her head slightly.)
MARTHA: What happened?
(The Doctor stands for a moment, and then grabs his own chair so he can sit across from her. The singing continues behind them.)
THE DOCTOR: There was a war. A Time War. The last Great Time War. My people fought a race called the Daleks, for the sake of all creation. And they lost. They lost. Everyone lost. They’re all gone now. My family, my friends, even that sky. Oh, you should have seen it, that old planet. The second sun would rise in the south, and the mountains would shine. The leaves on the trees were silver, and when they caught the light every morning, it looked like a forest on fire. When the autumn came, the breeze would blow through the branches like a song …
(As the Doctor speaks, the camera pulls out to show the bright sun over the city, with the cars still zooming.)
The biggest reason why I think that RTD wrote this episode was he needed to do some foreshadowing for the end of the season, for the season arc, to show how Martha had faith in the Doctor to rescue her, and that everything would be alright after just one adventure in the Tardis with him thus far. He did come after her.. even leaving behind his precious coat he got from Janis Joplin.. knowing that he would come back for it.
It was also good to see Boe again.. that big old Boe face, and Hume. Since RTD did write New Earth, I can understand him wanting the Doctor to face up to the fact that he misses Rose, and that he even admits that he did bring Rose there.. to which I screamed “REBOUND” at my screen when he ‘fessed up.
Anyway it does look like the Face of Boe has problems finding work.. Tennant had to remark about it during his video diary..
Till Tomorrow.. Bullet points again because Daleks and NYC do not mesh.
