Today’s Episode: Shakespeare Code

Writer: Gareth Roberts

This is one of the fun episodes. The Doctor meeting Shakespeare! The Doctor hearing a “lost play”! Also quite a few modern day references.. like him mentioning his reaction to reading book 7 of Harry Potter….

Before Harry Potter book 7 came out, July 21st, 2007 and this episode was aired April 11th, 2007 thus making Harry Potter Whovians cry.

This is Gareth Roberts first official outing with the Doctor, as he did do some Tardisodes for the first season of the Doctor.. and he did also write some Sarah Jane Adventure episodes.

It was funny watching the Doctor deal with “Witchcraft” and dealing with Martha learning about time travel. He had no choice but to use…

MARTHA: The thing is, though… am I missing something here? The world didn’t end in 1599. It just didn’t. Look at me — I’m living proof.

THE DOCTOR: Oh, how to explain the mechanics of the infinite temporal flux? I know! ‘Back to the Future’! It’s like ‘Back to the Future’!

MARTHA: The film?

THE DOCTOR: No, the novelisation. Yes, the film. Marty McFly goes back and changes history.

MARTHA: And he starts fading away. (realises) Oh my God, am I gonna fade?

THE DOCTOR: You and the entire future of the human race. It ends right now in 1599 if we don’t stop it. But which house?

The door to Lilith’s house slowly opens.

THE DOCTOR: Ah, make that WITCH house.

Shakespere also didn’t care much for the Doctor until he met Martha… calling her a “blackamoor lady” and after getting to know the Doctor, he did mention wanting for flirt with him as well.

Such a fun episode, when you travel in time… it’s never in the right order, making him run away from the Queen he hasn’t met yet..

Here is Tennant’s video Diary.. such fun watching him call everything he sees in Warwick on set.. “ye olde”!

Also to close out this blog… I had to include this awesome video of him reciting Hamlet due to the mention of it at the end of Shakespeare..

The next episode.. traffic jam!
