Today’s Episode: Long Game

Writer:  Russell T. Davies

So, after yesterday’s episode, Dalek… Rose brings aboard a ‘pretty boy’ stray, Adam. The Doctor accepts him at first, but alas, he’s rubbish as a companion. They go to the year 20,000 and find themselves aboard Satellite 5, a space station orbiting above the Earth. The Doctor gives Adam some great advice that everyone should use whilst traveling..

Doctor: [to Adam] The thing is, Adam, time travel is like visiting Paris. You can’t just read the guide book. You’ve got to throw yourself in, eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double and end up kissing complete strangers – or is that just me? Stop asking questions. Go and do it!

[to Rose]

Doctor: Off you go then. Your first date.

This satellite is used to broadcast news all over the Earth, and has a fantastic editor.. the one the only.. SIMON PEGG!!!! I was dancing for joy when I realized it was him. Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, we see that some humans have this head info spike thing that opens when you snap your fingers…

Long Game Infospike

That turns their brains into computers, thus processing all the news. It was odd watching them process everything.. and of course the Doctor realizes that something is wrong because there are only humans on the satellite, no other aliens. Also they realized it was bloody hot, and looked at the heating system to find out what was wrong and lo, realized all their problems were up on floor 500 that is supposedly made of gold.

At this point, Adam separates from Rose and the Doctor, and we see why he’s such a rubbish companion…

1.)  He faints when realizing that he’s in the future, especially on a satellite above the earth.

2.)  He uses Rose’s phone to send info back to his time, information that could harm the timeline and destroy the future

3.)  He gets one of those info spike things. If anything, you don’t modify your body in any way, shape or form no matter what the era is!!

4.)  He wanders off.. HELLO RULE 1!!!!

5.)  He’s not the adventurous nor helpful type at all, especially after the Doctor tries to give him some advice.

6.)  He gives the game away.. by letting the editor know whom the Doctor and Rose are whist they are in shackles.

Long Game Shackles

Luckily, Rose and the Doctor manage to kill the editor in chief (not Simon Pegg, the guy ‘above’ him!) and get away.. and right after that the Doctor promptly takes Adam home and leaves him there.

See, not everyone is cutout for the role of companion and the Doctor only takes the best!
